Silicone Rendering
Water-repellent, flexible render built for coastal walls that take a battering from wind-driven rain.
Silicone Rendersin North Cornwall & Devon
A three-coat thin render system finished with a water-repellent, flexible silicone topcoat. The coastal choice.
On coastal walls, salt spray gets into everything. Standard cement render soaks it up, and over a few winters the salt expands and blows the render off. Silicone render is the answer — it repels rain but still lets the wall breathe. Rain beads up and runs off, taking dirt and algae with it. It's also flexible, so where rigid cement render would crack, silicone moves with the wall and bridges the gap. A full silicone job is three layers: polymer basecoat with fibreglass mesh, colour-matched primer, then the silicone topcoat floated to a 1.5mm texture. Done right, it handles whatever the Atlantic throws at it for 25–30 years. It isn't only for the coast, either — silicone is the standard topcoat over external wall insulation and on new-build masonry, and it can be left fine-textured or smoothed for a more contemporary look.
How we do it
01. Prep the wall
Cleaning down, sorting the surface, treating any algae or growth.
02. Basecoat & mesh
Flexible polymer basecoat with fibreglass mesh fully bedded in.
03. Primer
Colour-matched primer to even out suction and help the topcoat bond.
04. Silicone topcoat
Troweled on and floated to an even 1.5mm texture.

Why it works
Cleans Itself
Rain washes dirt off as it runs, so the wall stays looking fresh.
Flexes, Doesn't Crack
Moves with the wall instead of cracking like rigid render.
Built for the Coast
The go-to system for walls taking coastal salt and wind.

Frequently asked questions
Q.Is silicone rendering waterproof?
A.Highly water-repellent rather than fully waterproof — on purpose, because the wall still needs to breathe.
Q.How long before it needs cleaning?
A.Most houses go 5–8 years before any algae or dirt shows. A soft wash keeps it looking new.
Q.Can it go over old painted brick?
A.Not directly. The paint needs testing first, then either removing or covering with a render carrier system.
Q.What's the real lifespan?
A.25–30 years before any major work, applied properly over a sound wall.
